The 30-60-90 Day Challenge Goes Hollywood

Celebrity Judge joins the race to conserve.

Miami Judge Karen Mills-Francis of the TV court show "Judge Karen's Court" is the Celebrity spokesperson for the" 30-60-90 Day Challenge". The "30-60-90 Day Challenge" will pit low-middle income families (families that make $50,000 or less a year) from all over the country against each other in a competition to see who can conserve the most energy.

Participating families will be asked to submit their utility bills from April, May and June of 2009 to establish a baseline cost for their utility services. The selected families will then compete against each other during the months of April, May and June of 2010 in an effort to become the family that conserves the most energy during the three month challenge. Anybody Can Serve will outfit the families with an energy efficiency toolkit, which includes energy efficient light bulbs, heater insulation blanket, weatherstripping tape and caulking. They will also blog and receive webcams to upload pictures and videos, so the general public can follow along.

“This campaign brings energy efficiency into Dr. King’s legacy of service,” said NARUC President David C. Coen. “There are simple steps consumers can take to lower their energy bills and help improve the environment, because the cleanest megawatt is the one never used.”

“The 30-60-90 Day Challenge will demonstrate how easy it is for families to conserve energy,” said Anybody Can Serve Chair Colette Honorable. “We hope that people tune in, follow along, and learn. This is the nexus between energy efficiency and reality TV.”

Judge Karen's role is to encourage people to participate with the winner of this challenge having their electric bills paid for 3 consecutive months. Those eligible should sign up on the website before the March 1, 2010 deadline. Please spread the word!
